Amazon’s e-book, the Kindle, will spawn a stream of new devices, says the company boss Jeff Bezos. But not yet.
Speaking at the D: All Things Digital conference, Bezos said “There will be a second version, a third version, a tenth version. … but a second version is not that near.”
He also revealed sales figures for Amazon’s e-book business, saying that, out of the 125,000 titles available in both print and electronic format, sales for the Kindle had reached around 6%.
“Books won’t go away just as horses won’t go away,” he said, explaining that the market for downloaded titles could be as big as for music or video.
There’s still no news on a UK release for the Kindle though. Still, with stores such as Borders now selling e-readers of their own, Amazon had better get a move on.
