Take a peek at these pictures. It’s claimed they show Apple’s 3G iPhone in three colours: black, silver and red. They also show the phone sporting a front-facing camera and a slimmer shell. There’s just one problem though. They’re fake.
But so we’re not accused of hurling insults around, here’s our dissection of the offending ads, currently being touted by the iphonehellas website:
Foul fonts
All three ads feature incorrect fonts. These are non-Apple typefaces that Cupertino wouldn’t be seen dead using.
Where’s the App Store?
This is the 3G iPhone? Really? Then where’s the new App Store? Apple’s shown it off already, and it’s not here. Even the iTunes logo is wrong. Very amateurish.
There’s no engraving
The word “iPhone”, Apple’s details and the handset’s serial number are all missing from the rear. Apple’s famous for stamping it’s “designed in California” marque on iPods and iPhones, but it’s been airbrushed out of these pictures.
Weak wording
Apple’s advertising is famously slick. We’re sorry, but “make your choice,” “extremely slim,” and “three colors, three ways of life” just don’t cut it.
So there you have it. These are fake, fake, fake! That’s not to say Apple won’t release the 3G iPhone in different colours. We’ve already heard rumours that it’ll be offering black, white and red versions. But don’t count on them looking anything like this.

Yeah these are mock-ups, but I agree that it’s inevitable that Apple will diversify its iPhone range at some point soon, and dipping its pretty products in different paint pots does seem to add some extra charm (and in fairness distract from any shortcomings). Not sure about a ‘Smoking Jacket Burgundy’ coloured one though.
