Are we missing something here? It seems French iPhone owners are already being offered the 3G iPhone by network provider Orange.
Apparently Orange is busy offering customers the chance to trade in their old model in return for a 3G handset for just €50.
We’ve been waiting impatiently for June to get our mitts on the 3G iPhone, so news that customers in France are being offered one now has us scratching our heads.
Orange is yet to respond to the rumours, first reported by French site PC Impact, but it’s not the only instance of carriers trying to flog the iPhone at cheaper prices.
O2 earlier dropped the price of the 2GB iPhone by £100 in the UK in preparation for the 3G model.
If the offers of an upgrade are true, then it’s the second case of a network subsidising the 3G iPhone that we’ve heard about. Last month Fortune reported that AT&T would discount the next-gen mobile, lowering its price to just $200, or £100. Fingers crossed the UK will get a similar price promise from O2 in June.
