The desktop version of Asus’ Eee PC now has a proper name, and a real release date. It’ll be called the EBOX, and will debut next month.
Previously known as the E-DT, the cut-price desktop PC is expected to be unveiled at the Computex show, taking place on June 3rd, packing an Intel Atom processor, a 160GB hard drive and 2GB of RAM.
On the software side, it’s expected the new computer will pack a similar variant of the Xandros Linux system as the original Eee PC laptop. That means there’ll be similar word processing, web browsing and chat software installed as standard.
Asus has previously revealed it will price the budget desktop between $200 and $300. That should mean a price of less than £200 when it lands on this side of the Atlantic, making it one of the cheapest desktops available. Even better, it’s expected to sport looks similar to Nintendo Wii.
