Like getting on the property ladder, trying to get in on the Blu-Ray scene can cost more than a couple of limbs. Denon’s latest modestly priced offering has all you need to get started. But is it enough?
The DVD-1800BD will go on sale for around $749, which is slightly more expensive than others we’ve found.
While for some it might offer a decent entry point into next-gen home cinema it does sacrifice in other areas.
For a start the player is only compatible with BD Profile 1.1 rather than the all-singing-all dancing 2.0 offerings of the future, meaning no Ethernet port for future firmware updates.
It’s not all doom and gloom though. Customers will be able to download trailers and games onto an SD card that the player will accept.
At the moment the Playstation 3 is the only Blu-Ray player capable of BD Profile 2.0.
One of the first discs to support the new profile’s features is a real beauty. You really should check it out.
