Rock laptopHigh-end laptop maker Rock has been saved from certain death by laptop reseller, Stone. Rock, which also supplies batteries and other components to rival laptop makers Dell and Hewlett Packard had looked unlikely to survive a spate of financial troubles, but could now be on much firmer ground.

The Rock brand went into administration earlier this month after one of its sales team stole a whopping £200,000 from the company, causing credit limits to be cut, and kick starting a wave of cash flow problems for the firm.

A fire in one of the factories didn’t help things either, with Hewlett Packard and Dell being affected by a shortage of laptop batteries and components.

With Stone’s purchase, however, Rock will live on. It’s being continued as a premium laptop brand, focusing on high-end machines for media and gaming.

James Bird, chief executive at Stone, said the purchase of Rock means the company can offer an even wider range of laptops to its customers in the public sector. Wait, public sector employees want laptops for gaming and watching films? No wonder our tax bills are so high…
