With the 3G iPhone right around the corner, the online rumour mill is grinding itself into a frenzy. The latest gossip is that Apple’s new handset will open up iTunes access anywhere, not just in Wi-Fi hotspots, as well as offering ringtones.
The current-generation iPhone can only download music when it’s in a Wi-Fi hotspot. That’s because its EDGE connection is too crumbly and slow to handle the bulky files.
That won’t be a problem with 3G, so Apple’s expected to let iPhone owners grab songs wherever they are. What’s more, it’s expected ringtones and ringback tones (they’re the ones other people hear when they call you) will be on offer too.
