Just in case you haven’t had enough of 3G iPhone and Mac Tablet rumours, there’s a new piece of Apple tittle-tattle doing the rounds: claims that the Mac-maker’s working on a keyboard to go with its Apple TV box.
Supposedly designed with a massive trackpad integrated into its right hand side, the design is rumoured to include multi-touch technology, and be able to adapt itself to any situation.
That means the trackpad could become an iPod scroll wheel, a number pad, or a standard track pad for moving cursors around the screen, or zooming in on photos.
If true, it would help Apple TV users browse the web, fire off e-mails or use their TV companion as a substitute for a proper computer.
We think it’s a bit of a stretch though. For a start, the Apple TV doesn’t feature Bluetooth built in, so it’d have to be a Wi-Fi keyboard, gobbling up power and making it impractical.
What’s more, Apple’s made it clear it’s ditching the iPod scroll wheel in favour of a truly touchscreen future for its hardware.
The last nail in this rumour’s coffin is Apple TV’s iTunes store interface. Would Apple really have crafted such a simple way to buy music, movies and TV shows if it was simply going to lump a web browser and keyboard in there? No, we don’t think so either. Still, they are nice mock-ups…
