Nintendo Wii pops a banana in GTA 4’s tailpipe

Nintendo’s been crowing about its April sales, shouting that the Wii was the biggest-selling console, despite GTA 4’s release on Xbox 360 and PS3 in the same month.

We already know GTA boosted both Xbox and PS3 sales, but it hasn’t dented Nintendo’s pride, since it outsold both Sony and Microsoft regardless.

And the figures are astounding. According to NPD, Microsoft sold 188,000 Xbox 360 consoles in April, while Sony shifted 187,100 PS3s. Nintendo, meanwhile, sold a staggering 714,000 Wii consoles.

There’s no denying it’s a monster achievement, and must have both Microsoft and Sony down in the mouth. If you can’t beat Nintendo with a World Record-busting title on your side, when can you?!
