Ahoy there!Turns out we’re not a nation of tea leaves after all – the amount of hokey software in use has actually fallen for the first time in three years, according to the BSA (Business Software Alliance).

Okay, it’s only fallen by one percent – but that still means it’s down to 26 percent overall which ain’t bad when you consider that 93 percent of all software in Armenia fell off the back of a, no doubt very big, lorry. The US, annoyingly, is the smuggest of the bunch with a piracy rate of just 20 percent.

The reduction, apparently, stems from action up north in Glasgow, which the BSA tactfully said had “specific piracy problems”. There’s also a warning to peddlers of dodgy CD-Rs in Manchester – watch out, the BSA is coming for you next.

Worldwide, 67 of the 108 countries studied got gold stars for reducing the amount of non-legit software, but the total piracy rate grew by three percent due to loads of new computer sales in the countries with the highest rates to begin with.
