TomTom’s not content with letting satnav owners tweak their own maps using Mapshare technology, it’s just been given the go-ahead to buy Tele Atlas, giving more accurate updates with fewer months between them.
Announcing the deal, TomTom said the new tie-up would enable Mapshare data to be funnelled into Tele Atlas’s systems, improve its maps, and producing more accurate cartography.
It’s not a selfish deal for TomTom though - Tele Atlas customers will still get the same treatment, just with improved maps.
“TomTom, will have access to the same higher quality maps, at the same time and will pay a comparable price,” the company said. We’re just glad there’ll now be a reduced chance of us getting lost…
