This should placate the paranoid who’ve bothered themselves with the notion that robots were taking over the world and that I, Robot was a docu-drama.
A grant has been given by the European Commission to the tune of £1m to the overjoyed (we imagine) recipients at Co-operative Human Robot Interaction Systems, based in the Bristol Robotics Lab, to see, whether or not a robot could be…..wait for it….used as an assistant in the kitchen to stir soup!
Behind the headline however there is a serious side. The entire project is aiming to develop the cognitive side of robotics to a level where they can interact with humans in various situations by understanding and interpreting human expression, tone of voice and instructions – Even we struggle with most of that before a cup of coffee in the morning.
The soup stirring headline grabber was deemed to be the best all round situation to describe what they were trying to achieve down in Brizzle, the process of making the nutritious meal now seems much more complicated, and we’re busily re-stocking the cupboards with Pot Noodles for a far more simple snack.
