Three’s plotting 3G routersNot content with filling your laptop’s USB sockets with mobile broadband dongles, Three has revealed it has plans to bring mobile broadband to the home too.

At a briefing this morning, the firm let slip that, since some customers are using mobile dongles as an alternative to a home landline, it’s considering the launch of a special router to share the connection between laptops using Wi-Fi.

Such a device would swallow a Three SIM card to receive 3G signals, then share its connection with computers and other devices using a wireless connection.

It’s a clever idea, and one that’s bound to please anyone with dodgy phone wiring at home, or those keen to dodge a 12 month contract, BT line rental or bundled internet deal.

It’ll also mean devices like the Nintendo Wii, iPhone and even internet radios can connect, since they can use their built-in Wi-Fi abilities.

Exciting stuff, but don’t get too excited just yet. It’s still in development, and there’s no word on pricing or a release date. Stay tuned for more as soon as we hear it.
