Tagging photos from your camera with the location you took them just got easier than ever. Eye-Fi, makers of SD cards with built in wireless, just launched a new “Explore” version, that uses nearby Wi-Fi hotspots to determine your location, as well as uploading them without wires.
It’s made possible by Skyhook, a company that plots hotspot IDs against their location, so it can triangulate your position. It’s the same technology that’s inside the iPhone and iPod touch and powers Google Maps location services, except here it’s used to tag photos with the location they’re taken.
As well as the Explore card, there’s a new Share card that’ll let you upload your pictures to online services direct from a digital camera, and a Home card, that’ll do the same, but only using your home network.
