The 3G iPhone is coming. That much we know. Now Fortune is claiming it has a source inside AT&T, saying the US mobile network will discount the new iPhone by $200, making it just $199, or around £100 when it first goes on sale.
That’s a huge discount, and while rumours suggest it’ll only apply if customers sign up for a two year contract, getting the most desirable phone for less than half it’s original cost sounds like a peachy deal to us.
Of course, we don’t know if the UK’s 3G iPhone will receive the same treatment from it’s British carrier O2, but it’s something to keep our fingers crossed for.
Fortune’s source doesn’t come up with much else in the way of juicy information, but does claim the new handset will pack either 8GB or 16GB of memory, and cost $399 or $499 without AT&T’s discount.
As always, we’ll keep you posted on iPhone news. If you hadn’t already heard, we’re expecting the new phone to launch in June, which also tallies with Fortune’s “summertime” prediction.
