The BBC’s hugely successful iPlayer internet catch up service is preventing competition in the broadband TV market, according to rival Sky.
James Murdoch, chairman of BSKyB, attacked the BBC Trust, which keeps a watchful eye on everything the corporation does, for allowing it to launch a service that’s nibbling away at the pay TV market.
Murdoch claimed the service was a “pre-emptive intervention” that was “squashing a lot of competitors,” according to the Telegraph.
The BBC Trust, however, was having none of it saying that the iPlayer was assessed under a rigorous public value test which included a market impact assessment by regulator Ofcom.
