Microsoft’s Xbox bosses reckon video downloads are the future, and now it seems the PS3’s overlords are in agreement. According to the LA Times, Sony’s preparing to unveil a massive movie store for the console in July.
The launch will follow Sony’s wrangling with several movie studios to secure titles for the console, and will likely form part of the company’s line-up for E3, the world’s largest gaming event, also being held in July.
Peter Dille, senior vice president of marketing for SCEA, said in a blog post last week that the new PlayStation video store would be very special, claiming: “we’ll be offering a video service for PS3 in a way that separates the service from others you’ve seen or used.”
However, since the UK can only currently make do with Xbox Live movies and iTunes TV shows, it seems Sony will have to try pretty hard to deliver a download service that’s any worse than current offerings. More as soon as we hear it.
