First the PlayTV, and now PlayStation Home. It seems Sony’s suffering an epidemic of delays, with its community service now looking at a “Fall” release, almost a year after it was first slated to land.
The service, which will let gamers chat with each other, customise and clothe avatars, collect stuff for their virtual Home, and swap objects, is currently in closed testing, with Sony announcing today that it’s expanding the trial to more users, but is still a long way from a full blown launch.
“We understand that we are asking PS3 and prospective PS3 users to wait a bit longer, but we have come to the conclusion that we need more time to refine the service to ensure a more focused gaming entertainment experience than what it is today,” said Kazuo Hirai, President and Group CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment.
“Our overarching objective is to provide users with new gaming experiences that are available only on PlayStation Home. Spending more time on the development and on the Closed Beta testing reaffirms our commitment to bringing a quality service, maintaining the PlayStation tradition.”
It’s bad news for anyone waiting for proper community experiences on Sony’s console, so in the meantime, multiplayer Blu-Ray movie games are probably your best bet.
