There’s really no need for motorists to consider any other PMP now. Archos is poised to announce a new windscreen mount for its 605 Wi-Fi media player, transforming the music and movie machine into a full-blown satnav.
The clever little box will even suck free traffic information from Wi-Fi hotspots, while a planned software update will deliver support for Windows Media 9 and Adobe Flash 9, so it can tune into web TV and radio.
The GPS receiver is expected on shelves in May, while the web TV and radio plugin will be available for around £10 next month too, supporting the 605, 705 and Archos TV+.
Elsewhere, Archos’s TV+ set-top box will get another update, delivering TVportation, a new app that’ll stream TV from the home to PMPs and laptops using Wi-Fi, just like Slingbox’s software.
Out May | £TBC
