Abacuses at the ready: it seems Sony’s due to break even on the PS3 in August. City analysts at Nikko Citigroup reckon the console giant will soon start turning a profit on its machine, and will release a slimmed down version to further boost demand.
According tothe rumourmongers at Stuff, the new version will pack a redesigned processor and smaller graphics chips, so the whole package will be much less bulky.
What’s more, the slimline console will also gobble less power, and be cheaper than the current version.
It’s not the first time a slim PS3 has been touted. T3 recently showed off an artist’s rendering of the new console. But with no new features to speak of, is it enough to push the PlayStation ahead of Microsoft’s Xbox 360 and the ever popular Wii? Keep it here, and we’ll keep you up to speed.
