There’s been no official deal between Sony and the BBC, but a gifted PS3 fanboy has worked out how to hack his beloved console to watch the Beeb’s popular catch-up TV service. Wii owners have been enjoying top BBC shows since Nintendo struck a deal to host the service, but there’s been no word of Sony doing the same, prompting one PS3 gamer to write the additional code himself.
According to the bright spark that modified the Wii software to run on the PS3, it was simply a case of “masking your PS3’s user-agent string and making half a dozen changes to the JavaScript and CSS”. Ha! As simple as that.
The rogue programmer’s objective was primarily to show the Japanese corporation how easy it would be for them to make it official. Now, you could wait by your console for an update, or you could, ahem, direct your PS3’s browser to “http://www.ps3iplayer.com” right now.
