The BBC iPlayer popped up on the Nintendo Wii yesterday, and according the BBC tech journo Darren Waters, the PS3 could be next.
Writing in his blog, Waters bemoaned Sony and Microsoft’s resistance to the watch-again service, quoting the Beeb’s Erik Huggers as saying, “If you want to get on the PlayStation or Xbox, they want control of the look, the feel and the experience; they want it done within their shop, and their shop only.”
Waters reckons Microsoft will only deliver iPlayer on the Xbox 360 if they can shape its look and how it’s accessed, but reckons the PS3, which is more open platform, could fall into line soon: “All it would take is a small update to let gamers access iPlayer in the web browser… I think this is almost inevitable.”
So there you have it, telly addicts: don’t expect the Xbox 360 to bring you old episodes of Bargain Hunt any time soon - but keep an eye out for it on the PS3.
