Sony just whipped the covers off two new TV stands with built in speaker systems. Dubbed the “invisible home cinema” range, the new Bravia Theatre RHT-G900 and G1500 stands pack in 5.1 channel surround sound, without a cable in sight.
The system uses hidden processing electronics, amplification and speakers, deploying virtual surround sound technology to bounce noise around your room, giving an immersive effect without separate speakers.
Whole AV systems can be connected to the stand using HDMI cables, so Blu-Ray players, games consoles and even digital cameras can be connected with the minimum of fuss and tangle.
Both new stands will also work with Sony’s Bravia Sync technology, meaning they’re easily controlled by a single TV or Blu-Ray remote.
Still not satisfied? There’s a “digital media port” built-in, allowing connection to Walkman devices and other MP3 players, and even an FM radio.
Like Yamaha’s new sound bars, the Bravia kit also features a “night mode” to enhance speech and reduce bass, so you won’t miss a thing, even with the volume turned down late in the evening.
